  • @BJAY The renaming worked once before for me. This time I deleted those numbered folders and emptied my Recycle Bin. It is gone for me, now.

I just went to 'C:Program filesAceracer quick accessimages' and renamed the 'images' folder to 'images2'. The entire annoying overlay system is disabled, and the process is non-destructive. This way if I did want the overlay back (which I don't) I just rename the 'images2' folder back to 'images'
  • Many of the solutions mentioned above will work and fix the problem but they might be a little troublesome as you may want that feature enabled in the future and deleting system files might not be good for you.
I have a better solution. I have tried this only on Windows 10 so if you're looking for a solution for some other version of Windows then it might not work, but give it a try anyways.
    1. Click on start button and open 'Task scheduler'.
    2. If not already expanded then expand Active Tasks.
    3. Locate Quick Access and double click it.
    4. On the next screen that appears, select Quick Access.
    5. In the right pane under Selected item, click 'disable'.
This will prevent QALauncher.exe from starting automatically every-time a user logs in.
If anytime in the future you want to re-activate it follow the steps below.

    Case 1:

    1. Click on start button and open 'Task scheduler'.
    2. On the left pane, go to Task Scheduler Library.
    3. Locate Quick Access and select it. (If you can't find Quick Access goto Case 2)
    4. In the right pane under Selected item 'enable'.

    Case 2:

if you can't find Quick Access in the Task Scheduler Library then you will have to manually create a task.
    Follow the steps below:

In the Description enter This task is for Quick Access.

Next to Configure for label choose 'Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2'
    3. Now go to the Triggerstab click on New.. button, then next to the Begin the task label choose At log on from the drop-down menu.
Under settings select Any User, then click onOK.
    4. Under Actions tab click onNew.. button. Next to Actions label from the drop down menu select Start a program.
In setting below Program/Script click on browse button then go to C:Program FilesAcerAcer Quick Access and select QALauncher.exe click on Open then Click on OK. (If you can't find it then go to Case 3)
    5. In the Conditions Tab Uncheck everything.

    Case 3:

If you can't locate C:Program FilesAcerAcer Quick AccessQALauncher.exe then you need to install Acer Quick Access. On the next page you'll find the link to download Acer Quick Access. Just install it no further steps will be needed. No windows version has those icons and windows 10 is one of them. That comes from Lenovo computers. Check with them, not microsoft.

A little late but I just solved this for my self so i'm posting for future visitors. It's not a windows feature. A third party program is responsible for this.

In my case it was Hkcmd. Depending on the brand of your hardware it could be something different but it will be something related to Hot Keys or acronym of that (Hk)

On my system, I opened the start menu, then control panel, under Appearance and Personalization, I clicked Adjust screen resolution, then Advanced settings, then in the pop-up window I selected the On Screen Display tab. There, I unchecked the Enable On-screen Display checkbox.

Caps lock and/or num lock icons displaying permanently on Lenovo laptop screen

I have a Lenovo E530c laptop running on Windows 10. I was experiencing the same problem as many users, judging from the number of on line queries and posts, with the caps lock and/or num lock icons staying permanently on at the bottom centre of the screen (black boxes containing either a white numeral one or a capital letter A).

Several posts suggested going to Control Panel, and clicking on “Display,” then clicking on the “Show the indicator for a few seconds” option. This disables the “Always show the indicator” option that was apparently the root of the problem. I tried this to discover that there was no “Display” option under “Control Panel” on my machine.

I eventually clicked on “Settings”, which resulted in a menu with a “Display” option. I clicked on the “display adapter properties” link at the very bottom of this page, which led to a series of tabs, one of which is “screen configurations”. This where I found the caps/numlock display options mentioned above.

So if your machine doesn’t have a “Display” heading under Control Panel (like mine) the solution is:

  • Click on the “search” icon at the bottom left of the screen
  • Type in “Control panel” (both words)
  • Click on “Settings”
  • Click on “Display”
  • Click on “Display adapter settings” at the bottom of the screen
  • Click on the “Screen configurations” tab
  • Click on the “Show the indicator for a few seconds'

Ah, this is a Lenovo thing I've been baffled by this. I am including screenshots for Windows 10 Pre-Release updates that are a little different than the above.

Oddly, you won't get the same tabs in this menu by going to the Device Manager. So this should be straight-forward (Especially for upcoming releases).

Hopefully this visual (A bit different) helps anyone that cannot get the above instructions right.
