A simple how to on tweaking the regedit in windows 10 so that excel will automatically open new files in their own separate windows.

  1. Dec 08, 2017  Once we covered how to view Excel workbooks side by side. But there is another, presumably non-standard, task that appears to be very popular - to open your Excel 2016 or 2013 spreadsheets in different windows.
  2. Sep 04, 2014  With this config: Excel 2010 / Windows 7. I found the solution to open 2 Workbooks in separate windows, but from explorer / desktop ONLY! But from Excel (when a document is already opened), if I have an hyperlink in a spreadsheet that points on an other wordbook, when I click on the link, I would like to open it in a new instance of Excel.

the solution involves making little changes in the registry so i recommend making back up for just in case:

strart - run - regedit:

Left column

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/Excel.Sheet.8/shell/Open/commend:

Right column {adding (space)'%1'}

Open Excel In Separate Windows

Double Click on (Default) and write - 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice12EXCEL.EXE' /e '%1' Cad notes pdf.

Right Click on Command – choose 'rename' and add something to the name- for example 2 (commend2).

Left column

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/Excel.Sheet.8/shell/Open/ddeexec:

Right Click on the folder ddeexec and choose 'rename' and add something to the name- for example 2 (ddeexec2)

Left column

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/Excel.Sheet.12/shell/Open/commend:

Right column {adding (space)'%1'}

Double Click on (Default) and write -'C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice12EXCEL.EXE' /e '%1'

Right Click on Command – choose 'rename' and add something to the name- for example 2 (commend2).

no restart needed

Have Fun

hope i helped

“I’m using Excel 2010. Each time I open two or multiple Excel files, they are displayed in the same window, so I can’t view or compare the workbooks at the same time. Is there any way I can open Excel files in separate windows and view them side by side?”

The fact you should know is, in Office 2010 and earlier, all open Excel files share the same monitor. If you use Office 2016/2013, whenever you open a new workbook, automatically it will be displayed in a different window.

Accordingly, if you need to view multiple Excel 2010 workbooks at the same time in different windows, you can upgrade your Office to a newer version of Office. If you don’t want to upgrade your Office, then do as follows.

How to open/view multiple Excel files in different windows

First, you need to open multiple instances of Excel 2010, and then separately open the Excel files in different instances of Excel, so that you can view the workbooks in different monitors at the same time.

Step 1: Open multiple instances of Excel 2010.

There are three of four ways you can open a new instance of Excel, they apply in Windows 7/8/10. You can choose any of them depending on your own case.

Way 1: by clicking Excel icon on the taskbar

You can click the Excel icon appearing in the taskbar while pressing and holding the Shift key on your keyboard, to open a new instance of Excel.
